This Cd, “Mi Chamocha” is the real Joshua Nelson. Joshua is an extremely charismatic artist who seeks to please his audience. He is also in some ways a comedian. He loves to laugh and loves a good joke. Seldom does an artist’s persona come through a recording. It’s usually live that you get this. On this recording, you hear Joshua the comedian, Joshua enjoying what he is doing. Joshua singing like Mahalia, or Satchmo (Louie Armstrong) bringing the live concert to wax. Mr. Nelson is joined by his very, very talented band and his Kosher Gospel singers. “Who ever said that going to temple had to be boring? I try to make music so the listener will hear something and feel it as well. When a person sings a song, you should feel something. A temple member once said to me after a concert, Joshua when you sing, you give me goose-pimples, I remarked, they aren’t goose pimples, it’s your nefesh (soul) speaking to you and you don’t even know its there.
This is Joshua's Favorite Cd..................................The Bomb!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the classics of Jewish liturgical music and Jewish music put to the Soul sound. This album is one of Joshua's biggest sellers. To date, over 40,000 Cd's have been sold. It contains liturgical classics like "Adon OLam", "Oseh Shalom:, the "Chatzi Kaddish". and "Eli Eli". also included on this albus is "Observant Jew", a song Joshua penned himself and dedicates to those Jews who find themselves feeling disconnected from Jewish communities and searching for spirituality. "Aneynoo". A liturgical piece taken from the Sephardie shlie hot service has one listener saying, "Aneynoo" sounds very African and tribal. "This new take on a Jewish classic, dates back to the Hebrews' tribal roots as a people that sojourned in Africa. "Bo Yeladim" (Come on children Let's Sing"). is a traditional gospel song that has been translated into Hebrew and completes the rest of the album. Also included on this album is "Hatikvah". the Israelis national anthem, which Joshua has performed before the Prime Minster of Israel. Two spirituals are also included on this album. "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands", and a spiritual which Joshua learned to sing while in Hebrew School. "Joshua Fit de'Battle of Jericho", The Soul in this album owes its inspiration to the voices of the Great Synagogue in Israel, and by the sounds of the Black Hebrew synagogue in Harlem. Commandment Keepers,1,123rd street, New York.

Last year in Toronto,Canada, Joshua conducted the first Soulful Shabat with Rabbi Goldstein. The Cd was a short- run just for the service. Because of demand, we have extended production of this Cd, to not only have a Shabat of Peace (shalom) but a shabat of Soul (nefesh)

On its first live disc this alt-klezmer band chooses to celebrate the theme of liberation from bondage, but not only in the strict Jewish context or heritage, usually focused around the Passover and the story of Exodus, the liberation from slavery in Egypt. The Klezmatics, together with black Jewish gospel singer Joshua Nelson, find inspiration in the freedom songs and spirituals from the African-American tradition that celebrate the struggle for emancipation during the American Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement, identifying a common theme of social justice in both musical traditions. But as usual, the Klezmatics do not only celebrate a glorified past, but present these messages of struggle for social justice as something more relevant today than it was in the past. And it's not only about the gospel—it is mainly about the music: a joyful celebration of soul and rhythm & blues fused with ecstatic eastern European Yiddish music. It was a symbolic act to record this concert at the Potsdam Platz in the heart of Berlin last July, where only sixty years ago one of the most racist regimes ruled. The concert begins with the traditional Jewish song “Eyliyohu Hanovi”(Prophet Elijah), which is sung during the Passover Seder, when each family open its door to invite the homeless and the hungry. Frank London trumpet solo accompanies the Klezmatics' Sklamberg's devotional vocals, which are followed by an electrified version of Mahalia Jackson's spiritual “Elijah Rock,” led by Nelson's roaring vocals. They continue with one of the Klezmatics' staple songs, “Shnirele, Perele,” calling for the Messiah to come and bring peace to all peoples in the land of Israel. Nelson add his high cantorial vocals to the sweet chanting of Sklamberg. The African-American spiritual “Go Down Moses,” the catalyst for this project, now a standard in some modern Passover Seders as well as some jazz circles (check out the 1995 Verve release by Charlie Haden and Hank Jones, Steal Away), is sung soulfully by Kathryn Farmer, who trades solos on the Hammond B3 with the alto sax of the Klezmatics' Matt Darriau. “Moses Smote The Water” is sung a cappella, and Sklamberg, who learned the song from the Golden Gate Quartet '78 album as a kid, leads the choir. Sam Cooke's inspirational transformation of the spiritual “Oh Mary Don't You Weep” gets a new reading that celebrates both versions. While Nelson sings his version of Jackson's biblical tale of Noah and the Ark, “Didn't it Rain,” accompanied by the Joshettes (Sklamberg, Farmer, and the Klezmatics' Lisa Gutkin), the skies open up in a sudden downpour in an amazing transcendent moment. The Klezmatics close this concert with their signature anthem, “Ale Brider,” an ad lib Yiddish Socialist cry for universal brotherhood/sisterhood and a dedication to make this world a better place. A beautiful musical statement from a band that dares to explore its cultural and religious identity in a manner that encompasses universal human and social values, delivering a very touching message of hope, common fate, and faith.

This album was recorded live at the West Hartford Jewish Film Festival at Temple Israel in West Hartford. Conn. Over 700 people were in attendance to view the documentary "Keep on Walking", the story of Joshua's unique life and to experience the powerfulness of having Joshua perform live. Joshua opened with the traditional world song. "Let There Be Peace on Earth", and then went into his unique gospel- version of "Adon Olam":a beautiful rendition of the Jewish classic. He shakes the rafters with the spirituals "Didn't it Rain" and "Joshua fit de'battle of Jericho". To incorporate the feeling of world music, Joshua then performed Louis Armstrong's. "What a Wonderful World" and a song written by the legendary Thomas Dorsey "It Don't Cost Very Much". He then performed two traditional Jewish songs "Hiney Ma-Tov" and "Oseh Shalom". Joshua crooned the audience with two different versions of "Hiney Ma-Tov". The first as it is traditionally known, followed by a version sung to the tune of "When the Saints go Marching In". He than handles "Oseh Shalom" like a traditional Chazzan. Joshua is accompanied by the fabulous piano playing of Jerry Williams, as well as drums, Acoustic Bass and guitar. Joshua is also beautifully backed by the vocal styling of the Jubilee singers.

This album is for those die-hard Gospel music and Mahalia Jasckson fans. A favorite of Oprah Winfrey's (She works out to track #7 "How I Got Over", which Joshua performed live on the Oprah Winfrey Show). Joshua will have you shouting "Hallelujah". The album contains 15 songs: "Elijah Rock", and "Didn't it Rain". As a bonus Mahalia Jackson's pianist Edward Robinson and her organist, Charles Clency lend their musical talents on tracks, 2,3,4,5,6,8 and 9. Tracks 1,13 and 15 are live recordings from the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. On these tracks, Joshua amazing vocal talents are beautifully backed by a 5,500 voice choir: track 13. "Oh Holy Night", has a full orchestral background. Track 15, contains a brief interview with Mr. Nelson and is even further enhanced as Joshua shares his wonderful piano playing ability on this track. His piano playing has been compared to Ms. Jackson's original longtime pianist Mildred Falls. You can hear the Swedish audience of 30,000 enthusiastically clapping along in rhythm. This is traditional gospel at its best.
